Asam Pedas Recipe Melaka Style

Back at my in-law's house in Subang, eyes always on me when talking about Asam Pedas Melaka ‘Spicy and Sour’. Of course because of I am from Melaka. The truth is I am amaze by the popularity of Asam Pedas Melaka itself. Few friends ask for advise about the dish such as which restaurant to go and I just can’t give them the answer. Not because I don’t like but because I never go outside for Asam Pedas and maybe take it for granted.

Asam Pedas Recipe Melaka Style
It has been six months since my last Asam Pedas and today, its feel like to have Asam Pedas for dinner. So, where to get the best Asam pedas in Dublin? The answer is absolutely in my wife kitchen.

So here is the Asam Pedas recipe Melaka style presented by ‘Selangor Girl’ Anes.

INGREDIENTS:


A fish (Spanish mackerel – ‘Tenggiri’, Pomfret – ‘Bawal’ or Stingray – ‘Pari’)
5 okras
10 dried chilies
2 cloves of garlic
5 cloves of shallot
1 cm of ginger
1 cm of turmeric
1 lemon grass
1 teaspoon of fish curry powder
1 tablespoon of tamarind (put into a cup of warm water an squeeze the juice)
Sugar to taste
Salt to taste

HOW TO:

Blend chilies together with garlic, shallot, ginger and turmeric. Heat oil and fry the blended paste with lemon grass until fragrant. Add fish curry powder and stir well. Then add tamarind juice and two cups of water. Wait to boil. Finally add okras, fish and salt/sugar to taste. Wait for 2-3 minutes for fish to cook. .

  1. My favourite asam pedas is near JPJ HQ Bukit Katil. They also have air tebu. Best and cheap too!

  3. I was just thinking of asam pedas ikan jenak (which my dad cuaght!!) but haven't had time to cook it yet. Asam pedas Melaka is indeed the best!! Looks good!
